Technical hiccups mar polling as political dynasties cast ballots; RJD lodges complaint with Election Commission

PATNA, November 6, 2025 :The first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections recorded a voter turnout of approximately 13.13 percent by 9 AM across 121 constituencies , as voters in 18 districts exercised their franchise amid tight security .

However, reports of Electronic Voting Machine malfunctions emerged from key constituencies including Danapur and Mokama, causing temporary halts in the polling process at affected booths . The Rashtriya Janata Dal lodged an official complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding these technical glitches .

The elections witnessed significant political activity as prominent leaders cast their votes. Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi extended her blessings to both her sons while arriving to vote, stating “My best wishes to both my sons. Tej Pratap is contesting on his own. Good luck to both of them” . RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav cast his vote alongside his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate.

The elections have been overshadowed by allegations of electoral malpractice. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the NDA of attempting to form the government through “vote chori” (vote theft) and claimed that 65 lakh voter names were deleted from electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi alleged this was a “systematic method evolved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission”.

The first phase features contests involving several senior leaders including Tejashwi Yadav from Raghopur, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, and Tej Pratap Yadav contesting independently from Mahua. Vote counting is scheduled for November 14, with the second phase set for November 11.
