Deputy CMs Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Sinha Fielded; Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav Dropped from Initial Roster

PATNA: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday released its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary fielded from Tarapur constituency and state Health Minister Mangal Pandey from Siwan.

The list includes both Deputy Chief Ministers—Samrat Chaudhary contesting from Tarapur and Vijay Sinha running from Lakhisarai. However, Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav has been left out of the list.

The Central Election Committee approved key candidates including Tarkishore Prasad for Katihar, Ramkripal Yadav for Danapur, Nitin Nabin for Bankipur, Renu Devi for Bettiah, Prem Kumar for Gaya Town, and Olympic medalist Shreyasi Singh for Jamui.

The announcement follows the NDA’s seat-sharing formula where BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each. Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled for November 6 and 11, 2025, to elect 243 members, with results on November 14.

The BJP’s candidate selection focuses on winnability and replacing underperforming MLAs as the party aims to maintain its position as Bihar’s largest party.
