Better scores count – Students get a second shot to shine.

Big news for Class 10 students! CBSE will hold board exams twice in 2026, starting February 17. The first exam runs from February 17–March 6, while the second optional attempt is scheduled for May 15–June 1. Class 12 exams remain February 17–April 9.
Students can improve their performance in three chosen subjects, with the better score counting as final. Winter-bound school students can take either exam, while those missing three or more subjects in the first attempt won’t be eligible for the second.
key points:
- Single registration & exam center for both attempts.
- Practical and internal exams held once in December–January.
- No supplementary exams for Class 10.
This initiative, drafted in August 2024, is inspired by the JEE system, giving students flexibility and a chance to reduce exam stress. The Ministry of Education finalized the plan after consultations with CBSE, NCERT, and school authorities.
