Over 1.5 lakh cameras to monitor 90,000+ voting centers with 24-hour control room tracking; live webcasting ensures transparency

The Election Commission of India has mandated comprehensive CCTV surveillance across all 90,712 polling booths in Bihar for the upcoming Assembly elections, with each station equipped with two cameras to ensure transparent and fair voting . The unprecedented deployment involves over 1.5 lakh CCTV cameras statewide, marking a significant technological upgrade from previous elections where only select booths had surveillance .

Live webcasting arrangements have been established for round-the-clock monitoring, enabling officials to instantly observe conditions at any booth and take immediate action against irregularities, bogus voting, or indiscipline . Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal inspected the State Command Control Center, emphasizing district-wise monitoring with real-time updates from each booth .

The surveillance extends beyond polling stations to include all checkposts of enforcement agencies and counting centers, following explicit directions from the Election Commission . Vehicles transporting EVMs are GPS-tracked and CCTV-monitored, with the entire loading-unloading process video-recorded by police and central forces .

This technological intervention aims to strengthen trust, accountability, and security in the democratic process while preventing electoral malpractices . Two to three cameras per booth will capture footage at entrances where polling personnel and voter queues gather, providing comprehensive documentation.

The first phase of voting commenced on November 6 across 121 constituencies, with the second phase scheduled for November 11. Results will be declared on November 14, 2025.
