CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurates grand celebration at Namo Ghat; laser shows and Ganga Aarti mesmerize devotees from across the world



Varanasi transformed into a celestial canvas on November 05 as Dev Deepawali celebrations lit up the ancient city with 25 lakh earthen lamps across 84 ghats along the sacred Ganges . The festival, celebrated on Kartik Purnima, marked fifteen days after Diwali and commemorated Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura .
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alongside Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, inaugurated the festivities at Namo Ghat, lighting the ceremonial first lamp at 6 PM . The celebration featured spectacular 3D laser shows at multiple ghats, depicting Kashi’s spiritual heritage and mythological significance, running four times daily.
Over one lakh devotees participated in the magnificent Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, performed by priests and young women amidst rhythmic chanting and conch shell blowing . The event attracted more than 10 lakh tourists, with comprehensive security arrangements including NDRF teams, water police, and medical personnel stationed across ghats .
CM Adityanath praised Kashi’s transformation, stating the city now represents a model of holistic development combining spirituality with infrastructure. The 2025 celebrations marked Dev Deepawali’s recognition as a Prantiya Mela (provincial fair), elevating its status as a state-backed cultural event.
The festival also honored martyrs with special tributes, while eco-friendly elements included three lakh cow-dung lamps, demonstrating environmental consciousness . International visitors joined Indian devotees in witnessing this ethereal convergence of faith, tradition, and modernity that has positioned Varanasi as a global spiritual destination.
