Ladakh’s merit-cum-means scheme to support 80 economically disadvantaged students pursue civil services dreams
Leh, October 18 :Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta today launched the REWA 2.0 Financial Assistance Scheme, a transformative initiative aimed at removing financial barriers for Ladakh’s UPSC aspirants. The scheme will provide ₹1.18 lakh each to 80 meritorious yet economically disadvantaged candidates 40 from Leh and 40 from Kargil,covering coaching fees and accommodation expenses for six months.
Speaking at the launch ceremony at LG Secretariat, Leh, the Lt Governor emphasized that “financial hardship should not hinder the aspirations of talented youth.” The scheme enables candidates aged 21-36 to access quality coaching at reputed institutions across India, with one seat per district reserved for persons with disabilities.
Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Bhanu Prabha highlighted that beneficiaries can choose any coaching institute and must appear in the upcoming UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination. “This is a level playing field for deserving candidates who can now compete nationally,” she stated.
The Lt Governor commended the initiative as a “visionary step” toward inclusive development and urged eligible youth to “seize this opportunity with determination and excel in civil services.”
