From healthcare infrastructure to connectivity gaps, delegations seek urgent interventions across remote Union Territory

Leh, February 3: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta received multiple delegations at the LG Secretariat, addressing pressing development and welfare issues across Ladakh.
Padma Shri awardee Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, expressed gratitude for recent honors while highlighting a ₹52 crore central allocation for the institute. Plans include establishing 15 new branches nationwide and cultivating 100 medicinal plant species at Phey’s Trans-Himalayan Herbal Garden, alongside strengthening traditional healthcare delivery in rural areas.
Delegations from Hemya-Khatpu, Zanskar, Stakmo, and Korzok raised concerns spanning telecommunication connectivity, infrastructure development, water scarcity, and administrative reorganization. Zanskar representatives specifically requested Rangdum’s inclusion in the new district and Stod’s designation as block headquarters. An ex-serviceman advocated for equitable regional representation in Khelo India Winter Games skiing events.
LG Gupta reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to funding heritage site restoration, improving telecommunication and road networks, and addressing water security through the Jal Jeevan Mission and solar-powered KUSUM irrigation schemes. He emphasized Ladakh’s medicinal plant wealth, particularly sea buckthorn, as vital economic and healthcare resources.
