At the Pashmina Artisan Awards in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor highlights J&K’s global craft legacy, calls for greater visibility and domestic market support for handmade products.

Srinagar, October 24, 2025: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today felicitated Jammu and Kashmir’s master craftspersons at the Pashmina Artisan Awards Ceremony organised by the Pashmeena Entrepreneurs Makers & Artisans (PEMA) Foundation in Srinagar.

Appealing to citizens to support local crafts, LG Sinha said, “Every household must buy a product made by our artisans. Buy local and empower our great craftspeople.” He expressed confidence that India’s expanding middle class will drive a robust domestic market for J&K’s handmade products.

Praising the artisans’ creativity, Sinha noted that J&K’s rich cultural legacy is reflected in its world-renowned handmade crafts. Since 2020, government initiatives have significantly boosted handicraft exports and strengthened the UT’s position in the global craft market.

The LG highlighted new policies, infrastructure, and GST reforms designed to directly benefit artisans. He also urged greater visibility for J&K’s art at airports, malls, and online platforms.

The ceremony celebrated excellence across traditional crafts, especially the Pashmina sector, and was attended by senior officials, trade representatives, and artisan communities.
