Annual Cultural Festival Launched to Promote India’s Heritage and Strengthen Soft Power

Jammu, September 28, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the inaugural Basohli Utsav at Kathua, describing the cultural festival as the “Mahakumbh of Art, Culture and Tradition.” The event, organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages alongside the Divisional Administration Jammu and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, marks a significant milestone in promoting India’s rich cultural heritage.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the festival’s role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation, stating that cultural heritage promotion is essential as the country intensifies its Viksit Bharat process. He highlighted how India’s growing economic power, coupled with its artistic traditions, is gaining unprecedented global recognition and strengthening the nation’s soft power.

Brand Basohli Goes Global

Sinha positioned the Utsav as a platform to promote “Brand Basohli” internationally, showcasing the region’s world-renowned handicrafts and paintings. He described Basohli as an “energy field” for artists and tradition seekers, emphasizing its significance beyond geographical boundaries.

The festival will become an annual event, with five publications on Ramayana released during the inauguration, including ‘Lok Mein Ram’ and ‘Tribes of Ramayana,’ enriching the cultural and spiritual dimensions of the celebration.
