Modi-Starmer Summit Seals Educational Expansion; PM Emphasizes Job Creation Through Enhanced Bilateral Trade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Thursday that nine universities from the United Kingdom will establish campuses across India marking a significant milestone in Indo-British educational cooperation. The announcement coincided with discussions on implementing the free trade agreement signed in July, which aims to reduce tariffs on goods ranging from textiles to whisky and automobiles while expanding market access for businesses.

Following bilateral talks in Mumbai, PM Modi emphasized that the trade agreement would facilitate smoother imports between both nations, catalyzing business growth and generating employment opportunities for Indian youth. The discussions encompassed critical areas including trade, security, technology, and education.

Both leaders underscored their commitment to strengthening Indo-British relations under the ‘Vision 2035’ framework. The comprehensive trade deal between the world’s fifth and sixth-largest economies targets increasing bilateral trade by £25.5 billion by 2040.

The prime ministers subsequently proceeded to Jio World Centre to participate in the Global Fintech Fest 2025, the world’s premier fintech gathering. This concludes British PM Keir Starmer’s two-day official visit to India.
