With 12,000 Indian employees already shown the door, another wave of layoffs looms within a month

In one of the most sweeping corporate retrenchments of 2026, US-based technology giant Oracle has laid off approximately 30,000 employees worldwide and India is at the epicentre of the storm. Around 12,000 Indian employees have already been handed termination notices, according to two individuals directly affected by the cuts, including a source from Oracle’s own human resources department, as reported by PTI.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Oracle has offered no official public statement explaining the scale or rationale behind the mass retrenchment. However, sources suggest the cuts are far from over another significant round of layoffs is expected within the next month, deepening anxiety across the company’s India operations.

The development arrives at an already turbulent moment for India’s tech workforce, which has seen mounting pressure from global economic uncertainty, AI-driven automation, and restructuring across multinational corporations.

For Oracle’s Indian employees many based in tech hubs like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune this marks a dramatic and sudden disruption to careers built over years. The full human cost of these cuts is still unfolding.
