AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hits back at J&K CM Omar Abdullah’s promise to scrap the Public Safety Act, reminding him that the law was introduced by his grandfather in 1978

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi launched a sharp, poetic jibe at Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah after the latter vowed to revoke the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA) once statehood is restored. Owaisi reminded Abdullah that the law was first introduced in 1978 by his grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah, to curb smuggling in the erstwhile state.
Speaking at a gathering in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah had said, “Once statehood is restored, I will not wait for an assembly session to remove the PSA.” Responding on X, Owaisi accused successive J&K governments of misusing the law, noting that more than 20,000 people have been detained under the PSA since its inception.
“They could have repealed the PSA long ago and prevented years of suffering,” Owaisi wrote, alleging that detentions under the act were often extended for up to a decade. He ended his post with a poetic taunt “Sab kuch luta ke hosh mein aaye to kya kiya?” , underscoring what he called the hypocrisy of past rulers.
