Ravindra Metkar ,who once couldn’t afford a bicycle , now commands a ₹15 crore annual turnover and an invitation to address Oxford’s Global Research Conference

In a story that reads like a masterclass in rural resilience, Ravindra Manikrao Metkar, a 57-year-old farmer from Amravati’s Mhasala Anjangaon Bari village, has been invited to speak at the University of Oxford’s Global Research Conference, themed “AI for Every Mind,” scheduled from May 1–5.
Metkar’s journey began in 1984 on a college terrace with ₹3,000 from his father a Class IV forest department employee and just 100 birds. Setbacks were unsparing: the 2006 bird flu epidemic wiped out his business overnight. Yet he rebuilt from scratch in 2008 with a ₹25 lakh bank loan, and never looked back.
Today, his farm spans 50 acres, houses 1.8 lakh birds, and generates ₹15 crore annually entirely debt-free. He additionally cultivates bananas, mangoes, oranges, and coconuts using organic, low-cost farming methods.
Having previously addressed institutions including IIT Bhilai, Singapore University, and ICAR, Metkar now carries rural India’s entrepreneurial spirit to one of the world’s most prestigious academic platforms.
