India’s Star Cricketers Shine in T20, Asia Cup Performances Earn Global Recognition

New Delhi: India’s cricket stars Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana have been named ICC Players of the Month for September, following stellar performances in men’s and women’s T20 cricket.
Abhishek Sharma, the left-handed opener who made his T20 debut for India in 2024, quickly became the world’s number-one T20 batter. In the recent Asia Cup, Sharma’s explosive batting at the top of the order guided India to six wins out of seven matches. He amassed 314 runs in the tournament, earning the Player of the Series award for his consistent, match-winning performances.
Sharma beat tough competition from India’s chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took 17 wickets in the Asia Cup, and Zimbabwean opener Brian Bennett, who scored a T20 World Cup Qualifiers century.
In women’s cricket, India’s Smriti Mandhana triumphed over Pakistan’s Sidra Amin and South Africa’s Tazmin Brits to claim the Player of the Month award, highlighting her continued dominance at the international level.
The awards underscore India’s emerging talent in T20 cricket, with both Sharma and Mandhana leading the charge on the global stage.
