High-stakes electoral battle sees 3.75 crore voters seal fate of 1,314 candidates across 121 constituencies; second phase scheduled for November 11

PATNA, November 6, 2025 – Bihar recorded a voter turnout of 60.13 percent in the first phase of Assembly elections as of 5:00 PM, according to data released by the Election Commission of India . The polling, which commenced at 7 AM, concluded at 6 PM across most constituencies, though timing was curtailed to 5 PM in security-sensitive areas.

District-Wise Performance Analysis

Among the 18 districts that participated in polling, Begusarai registered the highest turnout at 67.32 percent, followed by Samastipur at 66.65 percent, Madhepura at 65.74 percent, Gopalganj at 64.96 percent, and Muzaffarpur at 64.63 percent . Conversely, Sheikhpura recorded the lowest voter turnout at 52.36 percent .

At the constituency level, Minapur witnessed the highest polling with 73.29 percent, followed by Kalyanpur at 71.62 percent . Meanwhile, Digha recorded the lowest turnout with 39.10 percent, closely followed by Kumhrar at 39.53 percent .

Key Battlegrounds

Among key constituencies, Raghopur where Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav is contesting recorded 64.01 percent turnout, while Mahua registered 54.88 percent, Tarapur 58.33 percent, and Mokama 62.16 percent .

Security Incidents Mar Polling

Amid stray incidents of violence, including an attack on Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha’s vehicle in Lakhisarai, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar directed the Bihar Director General of Police to initiate immediate action against those involved.

This phase will decide the political fate of several prominent leaders including Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, and Tej Pratap Yadav. The second phase covering 122 remaining constituencies is scheduled for November 11, with counting set for November 14, 2025.
