Sushila Karki Frontrunner for Nepal PM, But Parliament Dissolution Blocks Deal

Gen-Z and government representatives were locked in negotiations until 3AM, with Sushila Karki’s name emerging as the frontrunner for Nepal’s interim Prime Minister position. However, Gen-Z protesters remain adamant about their demand for dissolving parliament, creating an unprecedented political standoff.

The crucial meeting, originally scheduled to resume at 10AM this morning, has been postponed until 2PM as stakeholders struggle to reach consensus. While Sushila Karki leads among four potential candidates, no final decision has materialized.

Forty-eight hours have passed since KP Sharma Oli’s resignation as Prime Minister, yet Nepal remains without leadership. President Paudel reportedly opposes dissolving parliament, while Karki argues that constitutional provisions prevent non-parliamentarians from assuming the PM role without parliamentary dissolution.

The crisis deepened when Gen-Z activists clashed among themselves over Karki’s candidacy, with one faction alleging her pro-India stance. The confrontation highlights internal divisions within the protest movement.

Meanwhile, the army maintains its fourth consecutive day of curfew across Kathmandu and surrounding areas. The ongoing violence has claimed 34 lives and injured over 1,500 people, underscoring the urgency for political resolution.

As negotiations continue, Nepal teeters between democratic transition and prolonged instability, with young protesters wielding unprecedented influence over the nation’s political future.
