Dhaka’s NSA meets Ajit Doval in New Delhi as Bangladesh intensifies demand for Hasina’s extradition

In a significant diplomatic development, Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman held a key meeting with Indian NSA Ajit Doval in New Delhi on Wednesday. The talks come at a crucial moment as Dhaka steps up efforts to secure the return of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since her removal from office in August 2024.
According to an official release from the Bangladesh government, the two NSAs discussed major bilateral issues and reviewed cooperation under the Colombo Security Conclave. Dhaka also extended an invitation to Ajit Doval to visit Bangladesh “at his convenience,” signaling a desire to keep communication channels open at the highest level.
This meeting marks the most significant security engagement since the interim administration led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus took charge.
The diplomatic outreach follows Bangladesh’s recent request urging India to extradite Sheikh Hasina, calling her a “fugitive accused.” Dhaka cited the existing extradition treaty between the two countries and said New Delhi has an “obligatory responsibility” to facilitate the return of Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
With political tensions high in Dhaka, all eyes are now on India’s next diplomatic move
