Witnesses describe scenes of chaos and body parts strewn on road as powerful explosion triggers fire and panic across Old Delhi

A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening killed at least eight people and left 12 others injured, plunging the historic area into chaos. The blast occurred in a parked car near Gate No. 1 of the metro station around 7 pm, sparking fires that engulfed several nearby vehicles.
Eyewitnesses described the terrifying aftermath, saying they “felt as if everyone was going to die.” A shopkeeper told ANI, “I never heard such a loud explosion in my life. I fell three times due to the shockwave. I saw someone’s hand lying on the road.”
According to Delhi Fire Services, seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call. The explosion was so intense that it shattered nearby windows and sent thick plumes of smoke across the Red Fort vicinity, a major tourist and commuter hub.
Police have cordoned off the area, and teams from the Special Cell and forensic experts are investigating the cause of the blast. LNJP Hospital confirmed the deaths of eight victims, while several others remain under treatment.
Authorities have placed the national capital on high alert, urging citizens to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity as investigations continue.
