Ministry of Information & Broadcasting tightens its digital grip as explicit streaming services face the axe under IT Act provisions

inistry of Information and Broadcasting has blocked five OTT platforms -MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu for streaming content found in serious violation of Indian obscenity laws.
Acting under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and IT Rules 2021, the government directed internet service providers to restrict access to these platforms. The blocked content reportedly featured sexually explicit material lacking any meaningful narrative or social value.
This is not an isolated crackdown. In July 2025, the Centre had banned 25 apps and websites on similar grounds, including ALTBalaji and ULLU. Several previously blocked platforms had attempted to resurface through alternate domains a pattern the ministry is now aggressively monitoring.
The action followed multi-ministry consultations involving Home Affairs, Women and Child Development, and child rights experts signalling that India’s digital content regulation is shifting from advisory to enforcement.
