Calls for Enhanced RERA Implementation to Transform Real Estate Sector into Growth Driver for ‘Viksit Bharat

SRINAGAR, September 25, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha described the Rs 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund as a “game changer” that will transform Indian cities into growth hubs during his address at the All-India Forum of Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (AIFORERA) Governing Council Meeting here today.

The ambitious initiative will redevelop 300 cities through collaboration between states, union territories, and private players, promoting innovation, robust infrastructure development, and sustainable urban planning while improving ease of living.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for a “whole of government” approach to advance the real estate sector and ensure accountability in timely project delivery. He stressed that the transparency brought by the RERA Act 2016 must continue protecting homebuyers’ interests through swift grievance redressal mechanisms.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the real estate sector is emerging as a major contributor in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat,” Sinha said, calling for equitable development and urban transformation with fairness and transparency for aspiring homeowners.

The Lieutenant Governor urged private developers to prioritize affordable housing and pay attention to construction workers’ families’ health and education needs. He called for uniformity in housing regulations across states and union territories to encourage competitive growth.

Sinha emphasized real-time monitoring of housing projects and buyer awareness campaigns, urging AIFORERA to collaborate with developer groups like NAREDCO to protect workers’ basic rights.

The event featured the release of AIFORERA’s Journal and Annual Report 2024-25. AIFORERA Chairman Anand Kumar, J&K RERA Chairman Satish Chandra, and various state RERA chairpersons attended the session.
