
Focus on Multi-stakeholder Collaboration and Risk Reduction Through Academic-Government Partnership
SRINAGAR, September 25, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha held strategic discussions on building disaster-resilient infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir during a high-level meeting with Dr. Harsh K. Gupta, former National Disaster Management Authority Member and ex-Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Dr. Gupta, accompanied by Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), engaged in comprehensive deliberations focusing on disaster preparedness and risk reduction strategies tailored for the union territory’s unique geographical challenges.
The meeting explored systematic approaches to minimize natural hazard impacts through enhanced preparedness protocols, resilient infrastructure development, and comprehensive citizen awareness programs. Prof. Romshoo presented IUST’s ongoing initiatives designed to strengthen disaster awareness and capacity-building in collaboration with the J&K Disaster Management Authority.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized the critical importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, advocating for integrated partnerships between government agencies, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and local communities to create a robust disaster management ecosystem.
