Alliance partners field rival candidates; seat-sharing impasse deepens ahead of Phase 2 nominations

Patna, October 18 The Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) in Bihar faces a deepening crisis as the Congress-RJD seat-sharing dispute escalates despite Phase 1 nominations concluding and just two days remaining for Phase 2 filings.

The conflict has intensified with RJD and Left parties fielding candidates on seats claimed by Congress, while neither party appears willing to reduce their seat demands. Senior Congress leader Allawar remains firm on his party’s position, refusing to back down from contested constituencies.

The three-point dispute:

1. Seat allocation: RJD and Congress remain locked in disagreement over the distribution of assembly seats, with both parties claiming stakes in overlapping constituencies.

2. Candidate clash: RJD-Left combine has nominated candidates on traditional Congress seats, creating direct competition within the alliance.

3. No compromise: Despite the nomination deadline approaching rapidly, neither Congress nor RJD shows readiness to concede ground or withdraw candidates.

Political observers suggest the unresolved power-sharing formula threatens the alliance’s electoral prospects, with internal rivalry potentially benefiting opposition parties. Senior alliance leaders have reportedly held multiple rounds of discussions, but a breakthrough remains elusive as both parties dig in their heels on seat entitlements.
