Kathmandu remains under control following recent violence, but the army has extended the curfew for a third consecutive day in the capital and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, efforts to form an interim government have intensified. The second round of talks between Gen-Z representatives and officials began at 10:30 AM at Army Headquarters. The first round of discussions on Wednesday evening had failed to yield results, with the military seeking input from all parties and leaders.

Sushila Karki Set to Become Interim PM

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Nepal’s first female Chief Justice, is confirmed to become the interim Prime Minister. She has backing from Gen-Z protesters and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah. According to sources, Karki will work as Balen’s proxy in the interim government, with Balen planning to contest future elections.

Prachanda: “No Alternative to Democracy”

Former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that the Gen-Z movement seeks not just change, but stronger democracy. He emphasized that protesters’ demands align with constitutional processes, not against democracy. Despite acknowledging constitutional flaws, he called it robust for ensuring social justice and inclusivity. Over a thousand people have been injured in the unrest.
