In a significant pre-election crackdown, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has expelled 27 party leaders for six years on charges of anti-party activities ahead of the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. The action, taken just before the first phase of polling, targets members who either contested as independent candidates or opposed official RJD nominees.
Among those expelled are Parsa MLA Chhotelal Rai, Women’s Wing State President Ritu Jaiswal, sitting MLA Mohammad Kamran, and former MLAs Ram Prakash Mahato, Anil Sahni, Saroj Yadav, and Anil Yadav. Party leaders Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav authorized the expulsions following reports of rebellious conduct.
Ritu Jaiswal is contesting as an independent from Parihar constituency, where RJD has fielded Smita Purve , daughter-in-law of former state president Ramchandra Purve. Similarly, Mohammad Kamran from Govindpur in Nawada is running independently against official RJD candidate Purnima Yadav.
The party’s official statement cited anti-party conduct and activities counter to RJD’s interests as grounds for the mass expulsion, marking one of the largest internal disciplinary actions in recent Bihar politics.
