Banaras Gharana Grace Delhi’s Cultural Renaissance

NEW DELHI – SPIC MACAY and Sunder Nursery have launched “Sangeet Sudha,” a ground-breaking monthly classical music initiative at the World Heritage Site Museum of Humayun’s Tomb. The inaugural program features Padma Bhushan awardee Pt. Sajan Mishra alongside Pt. Swaransh Mishra in a Hindustani vocal recital on September 19 at 4:30 PM.
The collaboration transforms the UNESCO site’s state-of-the-art auditorium into a vibrant cultural hub, extending SPIC MACAY’s educational mission to Delhi’s general public. Accompanying the Banaras Gharana maestros will be Pt. Vinod Lele on tabla and Pt. Sumit Mishra on harmonium.
This partnership with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture represents a significant expansion for SPIC MACAY, which has traditionally focused on educational institutions. The museum and Sunder Nursery together attract over one million visitors annually, providing unprecedented access to India’s classical heritage.
The initiative, supported by Sudha Sangini Foundation, aims to revive Delhi’s cultural landscape by making world-class performances accessible in historic settings.
