Cancer Screening & Awareness Programme Launched in Kargil

A major Cancer Screening and Awareness Programme was launched in Kargil today by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, aimed at boosting early detection and prevention efforts in the region. Organized by Al Reza Health Care and Research Foundation in partnership with Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, the initiative introduces new screening facilities and marks a significant step in improving local healthcare.

During the inaugural event, LG Kavinder Gupta announced that a much-awaited MRI machine will soon be installed at District Hospital Kargil, addressing a key demand of the area. He also assured that the administration will actively consider the proposal for a 200-bed hospital in Kargil, reaffirming the Union Territory’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and expanding access to specialized medical services.

The Lt Governor praised the ongoing efforts of Al Reza Health Care since 2017 and lauded the establishment of a satellite clinic and cancer screening centre, which promise timely consultations for Ladakh’s residents. Community leaders, including Sheikh Nazir-ul-Mehdi, President of Jamiat Ul Alam Isna Asharia Kargil, expressed gratitude to the administration for its ongoing support to healthcare initiatives.

The event was attended by senior district officials, doctors, volunteers, and civil society members. LG Gupta reiterated the administration’s focus on quality healthcare delivery, telemedicine expansion, and robust referral systems to ensure equitable medical access across Ladakh, especially for those in remote regions.
