Editorial Policy

News Trust India is committed to accurate, independent and accountable journalism serving the public interest.

Accuracy and verification

Writers and editors should verify material facts before publication, distinguish confirmed information from claims, and identify sources wherever doing so is safe and appropriate. Reports should provide relevant context and avoid misleading headlines, manipulated quotations or material omissions. Anonymous sources should be used only when their information is important, credible and cannot reasonably be obtained on the record.

Independence and conflicts

Editorial decisions should not be controlled by advertisers, sponsors, political actors or personal relationships. Contributors must disclose material conflicts of interest. Advertising and sponsored content must be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial work.

Fairness and attribution

People and organizations facing significant criticism should ordinarily receive a fair opportunity to respond. Information, quotations, photographs, data and reporting obtained from other sources must be accurately attributed. Plagiarism, fabricated quotations, invented sources and deceptive editing are prohibited.

News, opinion and user submissions

News reporting, analysis, opinion, satire, sponsored material and contributor submissions should be labeled appropriately. Guest contributions are reviewed but remain attributable to their authors. User-generated submissions may be edited, rejected or removed when they are unlawful, unverifiable, abusive, deceptive or inconsistent with editorial standards.

Artificial intelligence

Automated tools may assist with transcription, research organization, translation or editing, but they must not replace human editorial accountability. Material facts generated or transformed using automated systems must be checked before publication. Artificially generated or materially altered media should be disclosed when it could mislead a reasonable reader.

Corrections

Substantive errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. Significant updates should identify what changed and, where appropriate, when it changed.
