CBI finds no evidence of abetment, confinement, or financial wrongdoing by Rhea Chakraborty; Rajput’s family to file protest petition in court

New Delhi, October 23 :The family of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput has decided to challenge the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closure report that ruled out foul play or abetment by Rhea Chakraborty and others in the actor’s 2020 death case.
According to the CBI report, investigators found no evidence suggesting that Sushant was illegally confined, threatened, provoked, or financially exploited by Rhea or her family. The report notes that Rhea and her brother Showik left Sushant’s residence on June 8, 2020 six days before his death and that no contact was established between them in that period. It further states that Rhea only took personal belongings gifted by Sushant when she moved out.
Rejecting these findings, the Rajput family’s lawyer, Varun Singh, termed the report “an eyewash” and alleged that crucial materials like chats, witness statements, and medical records were omitted. “This is a shoddy investigation. We will file a protest petition,” he said.
The closure report, filed in March, dismissed allegations of embezzlement and abetment, asserting that Sushant’s finances were managed transparently by his team. However, the family maintains that the agency failed to explore all leads, demanding a deeper probe into the actor’s death, which remains one of India’s most polarizing cases.
A Patna court is set to hear the matter on December 20, where the family will formally contest the CBI’s findings.
