Three deaths reported as rising rivers inundate villages; rescue teams, boats and medical units deployed across flood-hit areas.
Uttar Pradesh remained in the grip of a worsening flood situation on Wednesday, with 23 districts currently affected and 16,784 people evacuated to safer locations. Officials said 3,042 people were rescued during the day as relief and rescue operations were intensified.
Three people have died in rain-related incidents. The victims were identified as 18-month-old Priyansh of Pratapgarh and Shera, 32, and Suresh, 55, from Amroha.
The state has deployed 1,499 boats and motorboats and mobilised 1,067 medical teams. Authorities have established 1,311 flood shelters, with 201 currently operational.
In Ballia, rising Ganga and Saryu waters have affected nearly 20,500 people. Rescue teams have deployed 83 boats, while food, medicines and cooked meals are being distributed.
Pilibhit is also facing rising water levels in the Sharda, Deoha and Khakra rivers. Flooding has disrupted road connectivity to nearly 18 villages, while schools for Classes 1 to 8 have been closed.
In Lakhimpur Kheri, authorities are monitoring erosion and vulnerable embankments along the Mohana river, with families in submerged areas being relocated.
Officials have distributed food, medicines, chlorine tablets and ORS packets to contain the risk of water-borne diseases. Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain alert and follow evacuation advisories.
