State GSDP crosses ₹9.9 lakh crore as secondary sector drives structural transformation

Bihar’s economy has outperformed India’s national growth trajectory in 2024–25, according to the Economic Survey 2025–26. The state’s Gross State Domestic Product reached ₹9,91,997 crore at current prices, expanding at 13.1% significantly ahead of the national GDP growth of 9.8%. At constant (2011-12) prices, Bihar recorded 8.6% growth compared to India’s 6.5%.

The 20th edition of the survey, compiled by the Bihar Institute of Public Finance and Policy, highlights a notable structural shift. The secondary sector now accounts for 26.8% of Gross State Value Added, up from 21.1% in 2020–21, propelled by robust construction and manufacturing activity. Meanwhile, agriculture’s share declined to 18.3%, reflecting gradual diversification.

Per capita GSDP rose to ₹76,490 at current prices and ₹40,973 at constant prices marking improvements from the previous year. The secondary sector led growth at 11.1% (constant prices), while tertiary and primary sectors expanded at 8.9% and 4.1% respectively.

This performance signals Bihar’s transition toward a more balanced, investment-driven economy.
