Escalating attacks on key infrastructure raise fears of wider conflict as Tehran rejects ceasefire terms

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a grim warning amid intensifying US-Israeli strikes on Iran, declaring that decades of “extortion, corruption, and death” could soon end, even as fears of a large-scale humanitarian crisis mounted.

His remarks came hours after coordinated strikes targeted critical Iranian infrastructure, including energy facilities and transport networks, shortly before a deadline set by Washington for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump cautioned that “a whole civilization” could be at risk, describing the moment as pivotal in global history.

Among the key targets was Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export hub handling nearly 90% of its crude shipments. Additional strikes reportedly damaged bridges, highways, and residential areas, with casualties including civilians.

Israel confirmed the completion of its strike operations, while Iran condemned the attacks and rejected US demands for ceasefire talks without guarantees and compensation. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned of retaliation that could extend beyond the region, including threats to global energy supplies.

Iran has also suspended diplomatic engagement, urging citizens to mobilize in defense as tensions edge closer to a broader confrontation.
