High-voltage rallies by BJP, Congress and allies conclude as over 2.5 crore voters gear up for assembly elections

Campaigning for the high-stakes Assam Assembly elections concluded on Tuesday, setting the stage for voting across all 126 constituencies on April 9. A total of 722 candidates, including 59 women, are contesting in the polls.

Top leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress led an intense campaign, addressing rallies and roadshows across the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and senior party leaders campaigned extensively for the ruling alliance, while opposition figures including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge sought support for their candidates.

Assam has over 2.5 crore eligible voters, with a nearly equal gender split and more than six lakh first-time voters. Authorities have set up over 31,000 polling stations, including several managed entirely by women and persons with disabilities.

Key constituencies to watch include Jalukbari, Jorhat and Sibsagar, featuring prominent political figures.
