As protesters fall to Pakistani security forces, New Delhi breaks its silence with a pointed demand for international accountability
New Delhi fired a sharp diplomatic salvo at Islamabad on Tuesday, condemning the deadly crackdown on protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and demanding the international community hold Pakistan accountable for what India called systematic human rights abuses.
The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that over 20 protesters have been killed and dozens injured in violent clashes between demonstrators and Pakistani security forces across PoK. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing the weekly media briefing, accused Pakistan of deploying deliberate misinformation to bury the crisis from global scrutiny.
“It is a desperate attempt by Pakistan to cover up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses,” Jaiswal stated, specifically calling out a coordinated circulation of fake news and fabricated videos originating from Pakistani sources.
The protests, which have been escalating across PoK, are rooted in deepening economic distress — soaring inflation, crippling electricity bills, and acute shortages of essential commodities. Pakistani paramilitary forces were reportedly deployed to suppress the unrest, transforming civic grievance into bloodshed.
