Fifty seats, a 12-month tenure and hands-on exposure to Mumbai’s municipal machinery await applicants under 28 – here’s the eligibility and application process

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out a new fellowship aimed squarely at Gen Z, offering young graduates a paid, year-long entry point into civic governance. Branded under the tagline “Let’s join hands for Viksit Mumbai,” the BMC Gen Z Fellowship 2026 will place 50 selected fellows within the municipal administration, paying them a monthly stipend of ₹61,500.
Over the 12-month programme, fellows will work alongside policymakers, observe how Mumbai’s civic machinery functions, and gain practical exposure to administration and leadership, according to a notice posted on BMC’s Instagram page. The civic body has positioned the initiative as a potential leadership pipeline for young Mumbaikars invested in the city’s development; those who complete the fellowship will receive a certificate of participation.
To be eligible, candidates must hold a graduate degree in any discipline, be proficient in Marathi (reading, writing and speaking), and have working knowledge of Hindi, English and basic computer skills. Applicants must be below 28 years of age at the time of application.
Interested candidates can apply online at bmc.recruitlive.in by paying an application fee of ₹500. The application window opened on August 19 and closes August 31, 2026; late submissions will not be entertained.
