Chief Minister Rekha Gupta says the changes reflect local sentiment, history, and cultural roots

Delhi’s metro network has a new look on the map. The State Names Authority, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, reviewed 21 station names on the upcoming corridor retaining 12, modifying seven, and fully renaming two.
The most significant changes: North Pitampura becomes Haiderpur Village, and Pitampura is rechristened as Madhuban Chowk both names rooted in neighbourhood identity. Among the seven modified stations, Derawal Nagar is now Nanak Pyau-Derawal Nagar, and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 gets the more evocative Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar.
Gupta stressed that metro stations are more than transit points they are civic landmarks that carry a community’s memory. Each name, she said, was finalised after consulting local representatives, citizens, and cultural considerations.
Twelve stations, including Majlis Park, Burari, and Yamuna Vihar, were retained unchanged.
