National song to be sung in full at Independence Day ceremony as celebrations mark 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram
New Delhi, August 11: The full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ will be sung from the ramparts of the Red Fort during this year’s Independence Day celebrations, marking the first such rendition at the iconic venue. The ceremony will also commemorate 150 years of the national song and highlight the role of young Indians in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said around 27,000 people are expected to attend the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The gathering will include young innovators, entrepreneurs, students, interns and participants from various government-backed skill and startup programmes.
‘Vande Mataram’ will be performed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at the Red Fort, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and his customary address to the nation. Invitation cards issued for the event will carry the lyrics to encourage attendees to sing along.
The celebrations will centre on two themes: “150 Years of Vande Mataram” and “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047.” Nineteen students who won medals at international Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics Olympiads in 2026 have also been invited.
The Defence Ministry said around 2,500 NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers will form ‘Vande Mataram’ on Gyanpath. An Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter will carry a commemorative banner and shower flower petals over the gathering.
