Flight AI2030, carrying 306 people from Frankfurt to Delhi, was cleared to resume its journey after security checks ruled out a threat

An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday after air traffic control (ATC) received a hijack alert, prompting a security response and a likely investigation into a possible technical glitch.

Flight AI2030, operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft carrying 306 people, landed safely in Jaipur and was moved to an isolation bay for security checks. Officials said the pilot informed ATC that there was no hijacking and diverted the aircraft on its instructions.

The aircraft was reportedly transmitting transponder code 7500, the internationally recognised signal for hijacking or unlawful interference. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to examine the ATC system to determine whether a technical error triggered the alert.

Air India said the diversion followed a perceived security concern. Security agencies inspected the aircraft and crew before clearing them to continue the journey.

The flight departed Jaipur at 2.37 pm and landed in Delhi at 3.11 pm.

Code 7500 is one of three internationally reserved emergency transponder codes. Code 7700 indicates a general emergency, while 7600 signals radio communication failure.

The incident recalls a similar false hijack alert involving an Air India flight departing Delhi in January 2025. Investigators will need to examine flight data and ATC records to establish the cause of Wednesday’s alert.
