Relief in court turns into political brawl as Congress and AAP trade barbs, while Punjab elections loom large

A Delhi court’s decision to discharge Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the CBI’s excise policy case on Friday turned bittersweet for the Opposition. Rather than closing ranks, the ruling triggered a sharp war of words between the AAP and Congress.
Kejriwal, visibly emotional at the verdict, faced immediate mockery from Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, who shared a meme contrasting his “one case” against Rahul Gandhi’s alleged 32 hailing Gandhi as a “lion.” Congress’s Pawan Khera went further, insinuating that the BJP may have deliberately weakened its case against a “convenient ally.”
Kejriwal fired back, questioning why Robert Vadra and Rahul Gandhi never faced imprisonment despite long-standing corruption allegations.
Analysts point to Punjab as the real fault line. With state elections approaching, AAP governs Punjab while Congress sits in Opposition making any reconciliation structurally difficult.
The CBI has already moved the Delhi High Court against the discharge order. Non-Congress parties, including CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress, backed Kejriwal, framing the case as a textbook example of political vendetta.
