Hails Ladakhi youth as “the true torchbearers of a digital Bharat

Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday said Ladakh is setting benchmarks in e-governance and digital innovation, strengthening India’s global leadership and advancing Bharat’s trillion-dollar digital economy vision.

Speaking at the Digital Innovation Summit 2025 in Leh, LG, Kavinder Gupta said, “This digital revolution is paving the way for Bharat to emerge as a Vishwaguru in the digital age. Ladakh’s success in adopting technology proves that even the most remote regions can lead in innovation.”

The summit, organised by the Department of Information Technology, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with Elets Technomedia, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to deliberate on the theme “Digital India: Powering Progress with Purpose.”

The LG outlined Ladakh’s digital milestones, including online public services, digitisation of land records under DILRMP, vehicle tracking systems for transport safety, and the launch of MedLEaPR, the country’s first medico-legal digital platform. He said the UT administration is working towards “100% digital coverage with e-Office, online scholarships, digital certificates, and cashless payments to ensure transparent, efficient service delivery.”

Connectivity has seen major strides: all 193 Gram Panchayats are now linked under BharatNet, ₹125 crore has been sanctioned for optical fibre expansion, and mobile services cover 234 of 243 villages, with 4G available in 169. Over 175 new towers, including solar-powered ones in border areas such as Siachen, Galwan and Demchok, have also been approved.

Gupta also highlighted Ladakh’s clean energy push, citing the ₹1,393-crore Drass–Zanskar transmission line, a planned 200 MW solar project with battery storage, and a 280 MW solar park in Zanskar and Taisuru. These, he said, will enhance power reliability, create jobs, and make Ladakh a hub of sustainable growth.

Calling Ladakhi youth “the true torchbearers of a digital Bharat,” Gupta urged them to embrace IT, renewable energy, tourism, and entrepreneurship. “Their participation will be pivotal in fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of a digitally empowered Bharat,” he added.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal and DGP Dr S.D. Singh Jamwal underlined Ladakh’s rapid transformation, while LAHDC Leh Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel said the UT could emerge as a model of digital empowerment.
