Week-long spiritual exhibition in Russia deepens India’s cultural diplomacy, fostering mutual understanding through shared Buddhist heritage

New Delhi, October 20, 2025 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha arrived in Delhi today, concluding a three-day diplomatic visit to the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, where he led an Indian delegation to facilitate the exposition and repatriation of Lord Buddha’s sacred relics.

The holy relics were displayed for one week in Elista, Kalmykia’s capital, marking a significant milestone in India-Russia spiritual and cultural cooperation. The exposition attracted thousands of devotees and spiritual seekers, strengthening bonds between the world’s only Buddhist-majority region in Europe and India’s ancient Buddhist traditions.

“The exposition underscored our commitment to foster mutual understanding, build trust and cooperation, and create lasting connections through shared spiritual experiences,” LG Sinha posted on X following his return. He emphasized that while the relics have returned home, “Buddha’s enduring presence in Kalmykia will continue to guide seekers for their own awakening.”

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted how the exposition deepened spiritual connectivity, noting that mindfulness principles embodied in the relics “will always serve as a source of peace, ideals and inspiration for future generations.”

This cultural diplomacy initiative reinforces India’s soft power strategy, leveraging shared Buddhist heritage to strengthen international relationships and promote global peace.
