BJP leaders slam Rahul Gandhi’s Chhath Puja jibe at PM Modi, calling it “political bankruptcy” and an insult to devotees’ faith

A political storm erupted after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “staging drama” for votes during Chhath Puja, claiming a “fake pond” was built in Delhi for Modi’s symbolic dip. Speaking at a rally in Darbhanga, Gandhi alleged that clean water was pumped into an artificial pond to mislead voters a claim earlier circulated by AAP.
The Bharatiya Janata Party hit back swiftly. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called Gandhi’s comments “political bankruptcy,” asserting that “Congress has no agenda for Bihar.” She said, “Biharis may be innocent, but they are not foolish. These Mahagathbandhan leaders can insult anyone for votes.” Gupta also accused the Congress scion of “insulting the faith of millions” celebrating Chhath Puja.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh mocked Gandhi, saying the “habit of dancing runs in his family,” while Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP’s Bihar poll in-charge, claimed Gandhi’s remarks reflected “fear of defeat.” Pradhan reminded voters that Bihar had long rejected the “jungle raj” of RJD-Congress and that such “cheap theatrics” would not sway public opinion.
Gupta added that Modi’s leadership had transformed Yamuna ghats into “clean, beautiful spaces of worship,” contrasting it with the “filth and neglect” of previous regime
