New Battlefields Await in the Era of Streaming Reinvention
Tariq Malik, Vice President at Hindustan Times’ OTTPlay, is moving on from the organization after playing a defining role in building and scaling the platform’s business operations. Currently serving his notice period, Malik departs as one of the key architects behind OTTPlay’s strategic growth and market consolidation in India’s dynamic OTT sector.
Known for combining business acumen with technological foresight, Malik helped shape OTTPlay into a high-engagement destination that bridged audiences with the fragmented world of streaming. Under his guidance, the platform expanded its footprint through data-driven content discovery, creative partnerships, and a user-first aggregation model that echoed where the industry is now headed.
Before joining Hindustan Times, Malik held senior positions at Reliance Jio, DEN Networks, and Hathway. At DEN, he led the OTT and VAS vertical, driving digital transformation and redefining content strategy at a critical juncture in India’s media evolution. An MBA from Kashmir University and an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, he blends operational discipline with a visionary approach to digital media.
Malik’s exit coincides with a pivotal moment for the streaming landscape. As audiences navigate multiple apps and competing ecosystems, the next phase of growth lies in making entertainment intelligent, unified, and effortless. The future, as Malik often espouses, belongs to the platforms that simplify choice, not multiply it.
His next step remains undisclosed; but his imprint on India’s streaming journey is unmistakable. As the industry searches for coherence amid abundance, leaders like Malik continue to redefine what digital convergence truly means.
