Mamata Banerjee’s party fields a high-profile mix of politics, law enforcement, law, and entertainment ahead of March 16 polls

The All India Trinamool Congress on Friday named its four candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, unveiling a diverse lineup that blends politics, law, cinema, and policing.
The party confirmed the candidatures of Babul Supriyo, former West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar, Supreme Court advocate Menaka Guruswamy, and popular Bengali actress Koel Mallick.
“May they continue to uphold Trinamool’s enduring legacy of resilience and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of every Indian,” the party said in an official statement.
Supriyo, a former BJP MP and Union Minister who switched allegiances to TMC in 2021, currently holds a cabinet post in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government. Rajeev Kumar is a familiar name, having served as both Kolkata Police Commissioner and Director General of Police. Guruswamy brings significant legal gravitas, while Mallick adds considerable star appeal to the slate.
The Election Commission has scheduled polling for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across multiple states, including West Bengal, on March 16.
