On Koffee With Karan season 9, actor flags invasive camera angles, paid celebrity sightings and the discomfort caused to female stars

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has criticised paparazzi culture and the growing use of camera phones to capture celebrities without regard for their comfort, saying the trend has made life difficult for actors.

Speaking on the opening episode of Koffee With Karan season 9, hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, Salman said some people pay photographers to capture their appearances, including airport looks and public sightings.

He clarified that his objection was not directed at celebrities who willingly participate in such publicity but at practices that make others uncomfortable.

Referring particularly to female actors, Salman raised concerns about photographers using inappropriate camera angles. He also questioned social media paparazzi pages that post cryptic celebrity sightings under labels such as “Guess who”.

“Whoever invented the phone and put a camera in it has ruined all our lives,” Salman said, expressing frustration over the constant scrutiny faced by public figures.

During the conversation, Johar also discussed the continued presence of established Bollywood stars, including Salman, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, in the film industry.

Salman said his generation of actors remained focused on their work and making films that families could watch together. He added that a director’s ability to share and execute a film’s vision was crucial to its success.
