ITO, Delhi Gate, Rajghat and IP Flyover stretches to see restrictions; police issue more than 10,000 challans a day as the pollution season approaching fast

New Delhi: Commuters in Central Delhi should expect disruptions on Tuesday morning. The Delhi Traffic Police has announced diversions and restrictions from 10 am to 12 noon on October 27, depending on traffic conditions and operational needs.

Diversions will be in place at six points: ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot and IP Flyover.

Traffic will also be restricted on six stretches. These are Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from ITO Chowk to Delhi Gate, Asaf Ali Road from Delhi Gate to NS Marg, the road from Shantivan Chowk to IP Flyover, and the road from Shantivan Chowk to Nishad Raj Marg. Restrictions will also apply from Guru Nanak Chowk to Ranjeet Singh Flyover and from Rajghat DTC Depot to the Ring Road bypass.

The police have not said why the restrictions are being imposed. They urged motorists to follow diversion signs, cooperate with personnel on duty and check social media and helplines for updates.

Meanwhile, the traffic police are preparing for the winter pollution season, when vehicle emissions add significantly to Delhi’s toxic air. At a virtual review meeting chaired by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Sunday with officials from neighbouring NCR districts, police said more than 10,000 challans for traffic and pollution violations are being issued every day. The meeting also discussed action against overage petrol and diesel vehicles and routing trucks not bound for Delhi via the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways.
