Parties demand single-phase voting as NDA and Mahagathbandhan brace for a tough battle

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections at 4 pm today. The tenure of the 243-member assembly ends on November 22. Political parties had urged the Commission to conduct polls soon after the Chhath festival to ensure greater voter turnout, as many Biharis working outside the state return home during this period.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, held a series of meetings in Patna over the weekend to review security, logistics, and enforcement preparedness. Over 500 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have already been deployed to ensure peaceful and fair elections.

The political battle is set to be a direct face-off between the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan. While JD(U) leaders have pressed for single-phase voting, Congress and RJD leaders have expressed confidence in returning to power. Seat-sharing talks within both alliances are expected to conclude later this week, adding to the anticipation.
