The International Cricket Council decries the tragedy in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, calling it “an act of violence that robbed families, communities, and the game itself

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the deaths of three young Afghan cricketers :Kabeer Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon who were killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan’s Paktika province. The aspiring players had just returned from a friendly local match when the strike struck their village, claiming several civilian lives.
In its statement, the ICC condemned the attack as “an act of violence that has robbed families, communities, and the cricketing world of three bright talents whose only ambition was to play the sport they loved.” It reaffirmed solidarity with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) during this period of grief.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of mourning as thousands gathered for open-air prayers, clutching photographs of the young players. In response, the ACB has withdrawn from its upcoming T20I series in Pakistan, calling it an act of mourning and protest.
The tragedy underscores how even the most hopeful corners of sport remain vulnerable to the shadow of conflict.
