Prime Minister raises safety of Indians and energy supply concerns, reiterates India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy amid escalating regional tensions

Narendra Modi on Thursday held a phone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing concern over rising tensions in West Asia and the growing toll on civilian lives as the crisis linked to the Iran–US conflict continues.
In a message shared on social media, the Indian Prime Minister said the discussion focused on the “serious situation in the region”. Modi conveyed India’s deep concern over the escalation, particularly the loss of civilian lives and damage to critical civilian infrastructure.
During the call, Modi also highlighted India’s priority of ensuring the safety and security of Indian nationals currently in Iran and stressed the importance of uninterrupted transit of goods and energy supplies, both vital to India’s economic interests.
According to an official readout, Pezeshkian briefed Modi on the latest developments in Iran and outlined Tehran’s perspective on the unfolding regional situation.
Around 9,000 Indians, including students, professionals, seafarers and pilgrims are currently in Iran. Indian authorities have already relocated hundreds from Tehran to safer areas, while several others have travelled to neighbouring countries such as Azerbaijan and Armenia to board flights home.
India has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to restoring peace and stability in the region.
