On his 13th Independence Day address, PM Modi calls for a self-reliant India, unveils semiconductor push and puts Yuva Shakti at the heart of Viksit Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today delivered his 13th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort, outlining an ambitious vision of a self-reliant and developed India by 2047.
After unfurling the Tricolour on the 80th Independence Day, Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, revolutionaries and the countless freedom fighters who made the “ultimate sacrifice” for the country’s independence.
The celebrations carried added significance this year as India marked 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, with the National Song being rendered at the Red Fort during the Independence Day ceremony for the first time since Independence. Modi described the moment as historic.
Turning to India’s future, the Prime Minister said the country must “dream big” and work towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. He stressed that India cannot build its 21st-century future by remaining dependent on systems and laws of the past.
A major focus of his address was Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Modi urged citizens to embrace “vocal for local” and strengthen domestic manufacturing and innovation.
He also announced an expansion of India’s semiconductor programme, saying three plants have already begun operations and that another five to eight facilities are expected to become operational over the next seven to eight years.
Calling self-reliance the “highway” to a developed India, Modi placed Yuva Shakti at the centre of the nation’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
