Nine kilometres, three roadshows, one declaration – West Bengal’s most watched seat heads to polls on April 29

Kolkata, April 28, 2026 -West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee closed her campaign with a defiant flourish on Monday, leading back-to-back roadshows spanning nearly 9 km from Jadavpur to Bhabanipur at one point riding pillion on a two-wheeler as thousands roared “Jotoi Koro Hamla, Abar Jitbe Bangla” along the route. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav joined her in the final stretch, adding opposition solidarity to TMC’s show of strength.

Banerjee, chasing a fourth consecutive term, raised pointed concerns over the electoral roll, alleging nearly 46,000 voter deletions in Bhabanipur alone yet remained unflinching: “Even if there is one vote, I will win.”

Her opponent is no stranger. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, who sensationally defeated Banerjee in Nandigram in 2021 after defecting from TMC, held a focused 2-km roadshow within the constituency, promising a repeat: “I defeated her before. I will defeat her again.”

A TMC stronghold since 2011, Bhabanipur votes April 29 and the result could define Bengal’s political direction for years ahead.
